Why do I use Coconut and or Soy Wax for our candles?
There is an ongoing debate about which wax is better or safer for making candles. But it is up to the individual to do their research and make their own decisions.
This blog or article is about why I choose to use Coconut Wax, Soy wax or a combination of both in my candles.
Soy wax is a 100% natural wax derived from the vegetable soybeans. Soy wax contains nothing artificial, making it a better alternative to old-fashioned paraffin wax, which is made from petroleum oil and produces harmful by-products when burned or melted. In addition, soy wax is non-toxic, making it better for the environment and your health! Soy Wax burns cleaner, reducing the amount of Toxins and chemicals released into your home, your environment, and the world. Soy wax is perfect for candle making as it blends well with fragrances. It has a lovely creamy colour and texture. Soy wax typically has a 50-hour burn time per 250mls and gives a fantastic scent throw, both cold and hot. The melting point is lower than other waxes, so it can also be used to create massage candles as it stays at a skin-safe temperature.
Coconut Wax is a 100% natural wax is made with cold-pressed Coconut meat. It goes through a hydrogenation process, where the coconut oil is transformed into a creamy white coloured candle wax. Coconut wax burns slower and cleaner than other waxes, which gives you a longer-lasting candle. It is made from a sustainable, easily renewable crop. Coconut wax emits zero soot particles, as the wax is petro-carbon soot free. Coconut wax does not blacken walls nor add toxic carcinogens into the air you breathe. The scent of Coconut wax is simply unbelievable, both cold and hot.
Why do I combine the two waxes to make Lys Creations NZ’s unique 100% Natural Handcrafted Fragranced candles?
Both waxes have exceptional properties and work exceptionally well together. However, depending on the container type and the fragrance I am using, I sometimes have to change the % of one or the other wax to work slightly differently to still give the consumer a high-quality, unique candle that performs perfectly when burnt.
